Bellevue man in deadly 2013 crash charged with vehicular homicide

EVERETT -- A 55-year-old Bellevue man has been charged with vehicle homicide for a 2013 crash on Highway 529 in which his passenger was ejected from the car and killed, the Everett Herald reported Monday.

Tests revealed that Shawn Wilburn’s blood alcohol was over the legal limit, court papers said. He also tested positive for morphine, which can be attributed to how the body metabolizes heroin, the Herald said.

Police said Wilburn was high when he lost control of his car on Highway 529 on June 23, 2013. His passenger, Kyle Finch, 26, was thrown from the SUV when it flipped over a guard rail. The medical examiner's office determined that Finch died from the impact and not from a drug overdose.

Officers said Wilburn tried to leave the scene, but crashed again a short time later. Police drew his blood, suspecting he was on drugs.
