OKANOGAN, Wash. — The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Friday that about 300 homes have burned so far in the Carlton Complex fire.

Previously authorities had estimated some 150 homes had been burned.

The fire, which has been burning for nearly two weeks, was 55% contained.

Roughly 400 square miles have been burned by the fire, which was sparked by lightning on July 14.

There are nearly 3,000 people helping fight the fire on the ground and in the air.

Rain this week helped in the firefighting effort and allowed crews to begin to get the upper hand on the fire.
