Woman placed 'creepy' dolls as gesture of kindness, sheriff's department said

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif – Authorities say eight families in the same city in southern California who found porcelain dolls left at their homes resembling young girls were the recipients of one churchgoer's goodwill.

Eight dolls crafted to resemble the students were left in front of each of the girls’ homes, Hallock said. Word spread, and soon the dolls were being lambasted as "creepy," some even speculating they were left behind by a sex predator.

Instead, police located the lady who left the dolls, saying she left them on the door of fellow churchgoers as a gesture of goodwill.

“Investigators have concluded that her motivation was out of goodwill and that she intended it as a kind gesture,” a news release from the department stated.

Authorities had concluded the investigation, the release stated.
