Drivers avoid I-90 construction zone Monday morning, crowd 520 instead

BELLEVUE, Wash – The first weekday morning rush through the I-90 construction zone went reasonably smoothly as thousands of drivers avoided the area.

WSDOT said the traffic west on I-90 through Bellevue was down by 22% over a normal summer Monday.

“We saw about 8,000 fewer vehicles than normal,” tweeted WSDOT.  “Average is about 36K vehicles, today it was almost 28K.”

WSDOT said there was a large uptick in drivers on 520.

“SR 520 traffic was up about 36% over a normal Monday summer commute,” tweeted WSDOT.  “Saw about 5,500 more vehicles.”
