BREMERTON, Wash -- One man was killed and another person was rescued when the car they were riding went over an embankment near Bremerton.

The car went off the road near NE Bahia Vista Drive and NE Slyvan Way just after 3 a.m. Monday, a spokeswoman for Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue said.

Responding fire crews discovered the car down a 200 foot embankment at a 60 percent angle, Ileana LiMarzi said. The man killed was the passenger in the car; his body was found about 25 feet from the car.

Crews found the female driver trapped behind the wheel, LiMarzi said.

A technical rescue crew brought the driver up in a "Stokes" basket and they transported the driver to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton in serious condition. The Kitsap Sheriff's office is investigating the accident; the cause of the accident and any contributing factors has not yet been determined.

The Kitsap County Medical Examiner's officer will identify the male passenger, pending notification of next of kin.
