Police: Officer shoots man during fight with burglary suspect

SEATTLE -- A Seattle police officer shot a burglary suspect who allegedly attacked him during a serious fight early Saturday morning in the Mount Baker neighborhood, police said.

According to police, officers were called to reports of a burglary around 1:30 a.m. in the 4000 block of 39th Avenue South. The caller reported seeing several suspects with flashlights and crowbars enter a home.

When officers arrived they surrounded the home, police said, and were able to arrest two suspects without incident. However, a third suspect jumped off a roof, didn't comply with a police officer's commands and began fighting with an officer, police said.

During the fight, the cop shot his gun and hit the suspect. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center where he is in serious condition.

The officer received minor injuries in the fight and was also taken to the hospital.

The two other suspects in the burglary were booked into King County Jail on suspicion of residential burglary.

Detectives from the  Force Investigations Team (F.I.T) as well as CSI are processing the scene now collecting evidence and statements. Per policy, members of the Office of Professional Accountability were on hand to observe the investigation.
