ALLYN, Wash. -- Police are investigating the home of a 47-year-old man was shot in the face by a woman before she tried to hide in his backyard as police searched the residence, the sheriff's office said.

Mason County sheriff's deputies were called around 9 p.m. Thursday to reports of gunshots in the 100 block of East Sherwood Lane in Allyn. The caller said a woman shot a man in the face and fled the scene on foot.

When deputies arrived, they found a 47-year-old homeowner dead near the front door of his home from a gunshot wound to the face. Deputies searched the home and discovered a 34-year-old Shelton woman hiding in the back yard, the sheriff's office said.
