Hot stretch comes to an end, but winds still a concern for firefighters

SEATTLE -- Our record stretch of hot weather comes to an end Friday. We managed to get 12 consecutive days of temperatures 80 degrees or above which officially sets us in second place for longest hot stretch ever in the Seattle area.

Starting on Saturday, we will cool to BELOW average as high struggle to hit the middle 70s. A weak front comes through generating mostly cloudy skies. The mountains and coast will pick up some a few light showers with slight chances of spotty rain across Puget Sound.

The northern Cascade Mountains could pick up on as much as an inch of rain this weekend. Sunday looks about the same with slightly better chances for a few afternoon sunbreaks.

High winds a concern for firefighters

Eastern Washington has about 50 wildfires burning. Winds will continue to be a concern as they remain breezy tonight out of the NW with gusts up to 30 mph.

A cold front pushing through on Saturday will keep those winds up again.

After the front pushes through the area, winds will shift to the south. This will help move the smoke plume from Central Washington into Idaho by the end of the weekend.

Nonetheless, an air quality alert remains in effect until the smoke clears.
