1 dead, 2 seriously injured in boat collision on Lake Washington

SEATTLE -- One person was killed and two others were seriously injured Wednesday night when a powerboat and sailboat collided on Lake Washington, the Seattle Fire Department said.

A 24-year-old woman died as a result of her injuries sustained in the collision, Seattle police said. Two other people were transported to Harborview Medical Center with non-life -threatening injuries.

The two boats involed, a motorboat and sailboat, were both disabled during the collision. Police said that another boater towed the sailboat to a dock in the Leschi neighborhood.

Firefighters met the injured at the dock and medics began treating the victims. Seattle Police Harbor Patrol Units towed the damaged motorboat in to the same dock, police said.

No arrests have been made and the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad is leading the collision investigation, police said.  The possibility that alcohol may have been involved in the collision is being investigated.
