Police searching for knife-wielding man who attacked sleeping woman at her apartment

SEATTLE -- Police are looking for a man who attacked a sleeping woman with a knife early Wednesday morning at her apartment.

Seattle police said the woman was sleeping at her home in the 4500 block of South Henderson Street when a man in his early 20s entered her apartment attacked her. Surprised, the woman fought back, and chased the man out of the house, perhaps injuring him.

A neighbor said the woman knocked on her door for help following the attack. She had stab wounds to her face, the neighbor said. The woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.



The woman told police she didn't know her attacker, and the man entered her apartment while sleeping.

Officers called to the scene searched the area for the suspect but he was not immediately located. King County Metro Transit told police they believe he boarded a bus at 46th Avenue South and South Henderson and got off at Rainier Avenue South and South McClellan. Police are still looking for him.

The attacker is described as an East African male in his early 20s wearing a red T-shirt, blue jeans and red and white tennis shoes.
