Did you lose this box? Coroner's office hopes public can help locate owner

A box possibly containing remains left at the Lewis County Transfer station.

CENTRALIA -- The Lewis County Coroner's Office is hoping the public can help identify the owner of cremated remains perhaps accidentally left at a trash transfer station Thursday.

According to the coroner's office, a box made of dark wood that appears to contain human ashes was left at the Centralia Transfer Station July 10. There are no markings, names or tags on the box, which is secured shut with a screw.

The coroner's office fears the box was thrown away by someone who didn't know what was inside.

"As in cases in the past we are assuming that the box was discarded by someone who did not know what it contained and that a family would like to have the cremated remains back," officials with the coroner's office said.

If anyone recognizes the box, please call the coroner's office at 3600-740-1376.
