State Patrol looking for man who crashed motorcycle on I-5, then tried to carjack vehicle

EVERETT -- The Washington State Patrol is looking for a a 38-year-old Stanwood man who crashed a motorcycle on Interstate 5 near South Everett, then allegedly tried to carjack a vehicle before fleeing on foot and stealing a car in a nearby neighborhood.
The State Patrol said initially the suspect was a white male in his 30s who was wearing a red jersey with the number 35 on it. "He is injured and bleeding," trooper Mark Francis said.
The State Patrol later identified the driver of the motorcycle as William J. Westmoreland, 38, of Stanwood.
The motorcycle was traveling southbound on I-5 just south of 112th Street SE at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic when it rear-ended a 2009 Subaru Forester, the State Patrol said. The two women in the Forester were not injured. But the motorcyclist was ejected from his bike at impact.
The trooper said the motorcyclist got up on I-5 and tried to then carjack a woman with two kids in her car. She was able to fight him off, however, and he fled west across I-5, possibly assaulted a man and then stole a silver Mazda Miata.
An ID was left behind at the scene of the accident on I-5 that witnesses said belonged to the motorcycle rider.
The State Patrol said Westmoreland has a felony warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle.
