Police investigate alleged sex assault of out-of-town woman, but clear Uber driver of involvement

SEATTLE –Police said an Uber driver has been cleared after an out-of-town visitor first claimed she had been raped by the driver.

Officer Drew Fowler said that there was a sexual assault and that they are investigating, but he declined to provide further details.

According to the initial police report the woman, visiting Seattle from Texas, told officers she had been raped early Sunday morning.

According to the report officers were called to a home on Capitol Hill around 3:00 a.m. after a woman living there said someone was on her porch crying and saying she had been raped.

When police arrived they found the woman with abrasions on her legs.

Seattle Fire medics treated the woman at the scene and then she was taken to Harborview Medical Center.

According to a police report initially the woman claimed she had summoned a for-hire car around 2:00am to come and pick her up at the Edgewater Hotel and take her to her fiancé’s apartment.

The police report stated the woman told investigators she quickly began to suspect the driver was taking her in the wrong direction when the driver stopped at a park and pulled her out of the car.

According to the report the driver then told the woman he wouldn’t hurt her if she did what he said and then she said he raped her.

“She was afraid the suspect was going to kill her if she did not do what he said,” wrote Officer Emily Akiyma in the report.

The woman told police she got back into the car and begged the driver to drop her off anywhere.

According to the report that woman was dropped off near the 300 block of 15th Ave E.  The woman then walked over one block and knocked the door of a home for help where police were ultimately called to respond by the resident.

The police investigation continues in this case.
