WHOA! Watch bridge explode, crumble to ground

CLEVELAND (WJW) -- After standing strong for 55 years, Cleveland's Innerbelt Bridge came down. Hundreds of explosives were put in place to bring down five of the remaining nine spans of the bridge.

The Ohio Department of Transportation says the remaining concrete piers will be demolished this summer using traditional methods.

Nearly a thousand people gathered to watch the implosion Saturday morning.

No one was allowed within a 1,000 feet of the blast zone, so the huge crowd gathered in a viewing area nearby.

A new bridge is scheduled to be completed by 2016.
