Woman warns about possible skimming scam: 'They tried 3 different cards before mine'

SEATTLE -- A local woman is speaking out to warn other about credit card fraud. She says all it takes is one swipe of your credit/debit card.
Luckily for Mary Van Dyk, she checks her accounts every day and spotted the fraudulent charges even before her bank did.
Van Dyk noticed a big discrepancy on June 28th, so she immediately called her bank and police.
She said her debit card number had been used twice -- once for $300 at a pharmacy in Marysville and once for $85 at a coffee shop in Everett.
Van Dyk did the leg work and had both stores print her copies of the receipts. On one receipt, she noticed several credit cards had been swiped.
"They tried three different cards before mine and they ordered a gift card and two Fuji waters and packaging tape," she said.
Van Dyk is convinced her debit card number was "skimmed" at a gas station. Detectives have not confirmed it as a "skimming" crime, but Van Dyk says that is the only place she uses her debit card.
"This wasn't just me, other people were affected by this. Clearly they used more cards," she said. "This is a small crime to the police but not to me, not to a lot of people. That's my money!"
