Is there an easy fix in cars vs. pedestrian crashes?

EDMONDS -- There have been several horrible accidents within the town of Edmonds prompting police to focus on pedestrian and driver safety during the summer months.

Since the beginning of the year, there have been at least four major accidents involving cars running into pedestrians. Two of those accidents were fatal. Over the next several months, police say they will patrol city streets where they are seeing problems. Drivers and pedestrians will be issued warning and educated on the rules of the road at first. Then police will start writing tickets with hefty fines.

Folks in Edmonds say they know there is a problem.

Sarah Roesch said, "People are stupid and come up to a stop and barely stop and think it’s their turn and they don’t look to see what’s going on around them. They’re in a hurry from point a to point b without any consideration of what’s going on in the middle."

Other pedestrians admit they could pay more attention while they cross the street.

Police say this is a good reminder for everyone to talk to their kids about safety around roads.
