LAKEWOOD, Wash. -- A Lakewood woman sleeping at home with her young daughter was awakened early Friday morning by an intruder who took her into the living room and sexually assaulted her and, when she briefly escaped outside, dragged her back into her home by her hair to try to rape her again, police said.

A suspect was arrested and booked in the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of kidnapping, rape and burglary.

Lakewood police Lt. John Unfred said that at about 3:30 a.m. Friday a woman was sleeping in her bedroom with a young daughter when a man climbed in through an unlocked ground-floor bedroom window.  He said the intruder took the woman into the living room and sexually assaulted her.

Unfred said the woman was able to distract her attacker and was able to make it out of the residence and started screaming for help.  But the man dragged her back into the home by her hair and they believe he was in the process of sexually assaulting her a second time when police officers showed up.  The woman was able to run outside again to the cops, and officers arrested the suspect.

Unfred said the suspect has a relative that lives in the mobile home park.  They believe the suspect may have met the victim about a year ago at a social function – but said they were not friends.
