Wife says fatal stabbing was an accident; son says she and stepdad were fighting

FEDERAL WAY -- A 50-year-old woman told police she accidentally stabbed her husband, but her son told a different story.

At about at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers were called to a report of a stabbing in the 3800 block of SW 339th Street.

The wife had stabbed her 51-year-old husband in the chest during a domestic confrontation, police said, and he died at the scene.

According to court documents released Thursday, the woman told investigators she and her husband were discussing their mortgage. The woman said she suspected her husband had been drinking, and she went into the kitchen to cook dinner. She told investigators she was cutting up chicken when her husband walked up behind her, and she turned around and accidentally stabbed him.

Her son told investigators he was asleep in the home when he heard his stepfather return, according to court papers. He said the couple was arguing, so he came out of his room and saw his mother holding a kitchen knife and telling her husband to leave the house. The son told police he tried to separate the couple, but his stepfather "went around him" and was stabbed.
