Mayor says Seattle City Light CEO won't get raise

SEATTLE -- Seattle City Light CEO Jorge Carrasco won't be getting the huge raise he had expected after all.

Mayor Ed Murray made the announcement during a SDOT news conference Wednesday. The city council voted to allow the mayor the ability to give Carrasco a raise of up to $120,000 more per year. Such a pay hike would have increased his overall compensation to $364,000 per year.

The announcement comes after Carrasco first said he didn't ask the Mayor for a raise only to confess later that he in fact had asked for it.

Last week KIRO Radio asked Jorge Carrasco ‘did you ask for a raise?’

To which he answered ‘No.  I think the, the – no I didn’t.  I did not ask for a raise.’

However, Seattle City Light issued a press release late Monday, saying Carrasco "did encourage" Murray to recommend a pay band increase. No apology was included in the response and a spokesperson for Seattle City Light declined to make Carrasco available for an interview to further explain this expanded answer.

Carrasco has also been under fire recently for hiring an online marketing company to enhance his reputation on the internet.
