Seattle City Light CEO first denies asking mayor for raise, now admits he did

Seattle City Light CEO Jorge Carrasco

SEATTLE --  First he denied asking the mayor for a higher salary, now Seattle City Light says in fact its CEO did ask for a raise after all.

Last week KIRO Radio asked Jorge Carrasco ‘did you ask for a raise?’

To which he answered ‘No.  I think the, the – no I didn’t.  I did not ask for a raise.’

After follow-up questions to the mayor from multiple news organizations, late Monday Seattle City Light issued a brief statement titled ‘Carrasco Expands on Answer Regarding Salary.’

“Carrasco did encourage Mayor Murray to recommend a pay band increase to the Seattle City Council in line with a 2013 market study of his position,” reads part of the statement. “In so doing, he hoped it would result in a salary increase.”

No apology was included in the response and a spokesperson for Seattle City Light declined to make Carrasco available for an interview to further explain this expanded answer.
