Court documents: Seattle cop coerced girl into recanting molestation claims against him

SNOHOMISH COUNTY -- A 12-year old girl who says she was molested for many years by a Seattle police officer tried to tell others about the abuse multiple times, but was at times pressured to recant by the officer, court documents show.

According to documents released by Snohomish County, the girl's abuse was finally investigated when she told her teacher after a health class on the subject of inappropriate touching.

Investigations led to the arrest of a 57-year-old SPD officer, expected to face charges of child molestation and communication with a minor for immoral purposes.

The officer, a Bothell resident, was arrested Monday and booked into the Snohomish County Jail. He has been with the Seattle police force for more than 20 years.

The police officer has not yet been formally charged. Q13 FOX News will name the officer when he is charged.

The girl told her teacher she was the subject of inappropriate touching while her mother dated the police officer from 2009-13. The girl said she told many people about the molestation starting at the age of seven, Snohomish County sheriff's deputies said, including her mother.  However, the victim recanted her initial disclosure after being confronted by the suspect in front of her mom.

The girl also wrote letters to her friends detailing the abuse. But the claims were not investigated for years.

The documents released by Snohomish county graphically detail the abuse, which allegedly was wide-ranging and included multiple instances of genital touching.
