EVERETT-The time is now to protect your home and your family.

According to the FBI, a home is broken into every 13 seconds in America and home burglaries are more common during the summer months.

Crime prevention officer Edward Golden from the Everett Police Department says there are small changes you can make now to secure your home.

First, start outside the home. Make sure your trees and brushes are not too large or full. You need to be able to see and so do your neighbors. If you have a fence, it’s best if it’s a fence you can see through. Make sure you have proper lighting around the home. Run the lights from dawn to dusk.

Once inside, make sure your locks are secure. It’s best to have at least 2 locks on the front door. Make sure all the windows have locks as well.
