EVERETT -- A 57-year-old Seattle police officer has been arrested for investigation of child molestation and communication with a minor for immoral purposes, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said Monday.

The officer, a Bothell resident, was arrested Monday and booked into the Snohomish County Jail. The sheriff’s office says he has been a Seattle police officer for more than 20 years.

The arrest follows an investigation begun June 18 after allegations were made that the officer had molested his former girlfriend’s daughter on several occasions between 2009 and 2013.  The victim was between the ages of 7 and 11 at the time, the sheriff’s office says.

The Seattle Police Department said the officer was placed on administrative leave on June 18 when SPD was first made aware of the investigation.
