Two people rescued after canoe overturns near Bellingham

SEATTLE -- The U.S. Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection rescued two people whose canoe overturned.

The rescue happened around 11:00 a.m. Saturday after a good Samaritan reported seeing two people in the water.

A Border Protection helicopter located the two people in the water and directed a rescue boat to their location.

The Coast Guard crew from Bellingham rescued a man in his 20s and a 15-year-old boy. They were treated for mild hypothermia.

Officials say neither one was wearing a life jacket.
