SEATTLE — A 43-year-old Seattle man who was booked into the King County Jail Monday was found unresponsive in his cell and died Tuesday night, the King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention said Wednesday.
The inmate had been arrested and booked into the jail on a warrant issued by the state Department of Corrections.
“The staff found the 43-year-old Seattle man unresponsive at about 6:40 p.m. (Tuesday) during a routine security check,” the news release said. “The jail and medical staff immediately tried to resuscitate the inmate. Medic 1 staff arrived about 8 minutes later to continue life-saving measures, but the inmate was still unresponsive. Medical staff pronounced him dead at 7:18 p.m.”
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the manner and cause of the man’s death, while the county Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention will work with Public Health — Seattle & King County to conduct an internal investigation.
The Seattle Police Department also will conduct an independent investigation, the news release said.
