PUYALLUP -- One person died and two others injured when a police chase of an "out of control" driver ended in a crash on Interstate 5 late Tuesday night, police said.

The Puyallup Tribal Police said they were chasing a driver in a blue Ford Fusion around 11 p.m. when the driver merged on to I-5 near the Port of Tacoma road. The driver lost control of the vehicle, police said, and ran into the median and rolled.

Three people were in the car at the time of the crash. The driver, a 30-year-old male from Goldendale, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, police said.

Two others, a 26-year-old male and a 24-year-old female, were injured in the crash and taken to Tacoma General Hospital. The extent of their injuries was unknown.

Interstate 5 northbound was closed for three hours late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning following the crash as police investigated.
