Small changes to help save your family from a fire
Captain Kyle Ohashi says most house fires start in the kitchen.
He says it is important to not leave anything on the stove burning.
He also says every home should have at least one fire extinguisher. It can be used to put a fire out or help a person exit a home safely.
Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors should also be on every floor of a home.
Parent should teach kids an exit plan before the event of a fire so they know what to do.
If a house is taller that one story, it’s a good idea to have a ladder handy so you or a neighbor can use it to reach people on upper floors.
Fire officials also say the house number should be visible from the street so they can quickly respond in the event of an emergency.
