PUYALLUP, Wash – A man wanted for questioning after a reported domestic violence incident was arrested after allegedly leading police on a chase and then ramming an officer head-on Tuesday morning said Puyallup police.

Police closed 23rd Ave SE between 20th St SE and Forest Green BLVD where the officer was hit.  That officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police said the chase began as a domestic violence call at a home in the 2800 block of 5th Street SE just before 10:00 a.m.  A woman was reportedly being assaulted by her grown son and needed help.  When police arrived on the scene they said the adult son came out of the home, produced a weapon of some kind and hurt himself and then took off in a car.  Police followed and the chase began.

That section of 23rd Ave SE is expected to be closed for several hours and police are asking drivers to find another way around the area.

Police said the driver was taken into custody at the scene and then sent to the hospital with injuries.  The man's mother was not injured in the incident inside the home.

The injured officer is 52 years old and a 26-year veteran of the Puyallup Police Department.
