Residents caught on balcony in large fire that displaces 90
FEDERAL WAY- A two-alarm fire ripped through the Crestwood West Apartment complex early Friday morning, displacing over 90 residents.
Federal Way firefighters arrived on scene just before 1 a.m. Friday to find flames shooting out of the complex located at 27910 Pacific Highway South.
The building was equipped with fire alarms, and most residents were able to escape quickly. But fire crews needed to rescue six people trapped on balconies as high as the third floor.
Luckily, no one was injured in the fire.
Resident David Cullen said, “The firefighters came and they were looking at different apartments and they saw I was on a porch and they rigged up a ladder and I went down step by step. Thanks to those two firefighters for helping me get out safely.”
After rescuing the residents, firefighters had to go on a defensive with the blaze, which moved quickly from one end of the building to another.
Firefighters say no word on the cause yet, but it may have started in the kitchen of a third-floor apartment.
The cost of the damage the fire is unknown.
