Murray names new deputy mayor of operations

Murray announces Kate Joncas (Standing middle) as the new deputy mayor of operations

SEATTLE -- Mayor Ed Murray announced Kate Joncas as his deputy mayor of operations.

Joncas, the long-standing president and CEO of the Downtown Seattle Association, will function as Murray's operations lead, which includes communication between city departments, coordinating mayoral actives, setting performance outcomes and monitoring staff efficiency. Joncas will work alongside the current deputy mayor Hyeok Kim.

Murray said at a press conference Wednesday that Joncas' experience working with the Downtown Seattle Association is a great basis for a transition into the city position.

“From transit and economic development to human services and the redevelopment of our central waterfront, she has been a well-respected, deeply involved and highly influential voice in this city," Murray said.

Joncas replaces Andrea Riniker, who came out of retirement to serve as internal deputy mayor on a temporary basis.
