SEATTLE — Whether you love your job or hate your job, these are five things things you should worry about if you start to notice at your workplace:
- Fewer assignments
- Your company has been sold
- You are repeatedly called on the carpet (reprimanded by supervisor)
- Your boss is avoiding you
- Someone else has been hired to do your job.
“People don’t get fired because they lack technical skills, they get fired because they lack all those sort of soft skills that we don’t take the time to develop and work on,” says career coach Regina Olbinsky.
Olbinsky says topping the list of workplace offenses, complacency. Oblinsky says the best thing you can do is start building your brand:
Take stock of your strengths and weaknesses.
Have a conversation with your boss about your plans to improve.
Be open to any advice or constructive criticism.
And begin putting together a file of your accomplishments, so if your job ends, you’ll be ready for a new beginning.
