Kitsap County: Deputy shoots, wounds woman with gun threatening to kill herself
The woman was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma with a gunshot wound. Her condition was not immediately disclosed.
The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to a home in South Kitsap at about 6 p.m. Monday after a request for assistance from the woman’s husband, who said his wife was threatening to harm herself.
The woman came to a door of the house armed with a semi-automatic handgun with the hammer cocked, the sheriff’s office said. She walked to an area southwest of the house while deputies continued to speak with her, the office said. But she continued to yell at the deputies to leave her alone, that she wanted to kill herself.
The sheriff’s office said deputies radioed that the woman fired one shot but she appeared unharmed. The woman yelled she had fired the gun as a warning. Deputies later radioed that gunshots had been fired and the woman was injured.
The deputy was placed on administrative assignment, and the Washington State Patrol will investigate the shooting, the sheriff’s office said.
