Armed woman in custody following standoff with police at mental health clinic

Police attempted to talk to an armed woman inside a mental health clinic.

SHELTON -- Police negotiated with an armed woman who refused to cooperate at a behavioral health clinic in Mason County, officers said Monday.

According to the Shelton Police Department and the Mason County Sheriff's Office, the woman was held up at the corner of Adams Street and Olympic Highway North in the Behavior Health Resources Building.

The woman said she wanted to harm herself, police said. Police said she was the only person in the building, officials said, and was apprehended about an hour and a half long standoff.

Schools in the area were placed on lockdown until the situation was resolved, the Mason County Sheriff's Office said.

The Behavioral Health Resource facility provides psychiatric treatment, mental evaluations and crisis triage, according to their website.
