SPU president after campus shooting: 'We have been shaken deeply'

“The Seattle Pacific University community has endured a senseless act of violence resulting in the death of one of our precious students and the injury of two others. We have been shaken deeply. I have no words to adequately convey the grief we feel about this event, or how it has affected each of us -- students, faculty, staff, and administrators.

Our students’ well-being has been and always will be our first concern. We have surrounded them with caring Residence Life staff members, faculty, grief counselors, campus ministers, and local pastors. And we are working to assist students with their studies as the academic year comes to a close next week.

There has been an outpouring of love and support for SPU from Seattle, the nation, and the world. I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to reach out to us; your love and support has helped sustain us during this difficult time.”

"Paul Lee, an SPU freshman, was 19 years old. He was from Portland, Oregon, where he graduated from Westview High School. The son of Peter and Mira Lee, Paul started as a student in September 2013, and lived in Ashton Hall on campus. Paul took a variety of courses while at SPU, and had not yet decided on a course of study. He is described by professors as always positive, and with a great wit. His sense of humor was contagious; he was outgoing and well loved by others. Paul was also known for his deep faith."
