MOUNT VERNON -- A driver who took off when police tried to stop him for reckless driving eventually crashed his car Saturday in Mount Vernon.

Police said they lost sight of the driver, but another officer spotted him just before 9:00 p.m. near East Division and 21st Street. That officer tried to pull him over, but he took off again.

Officers said the car drove east to the Mount Vernon city limits and drove off the road into a hedge at East Division Street and Big Lake Road.

Police apprehended the 23-year-old driver who tried to flee on foot. Officers arrested him for investigation of eluding and reckless endangerment.

Two passengers in the car were transported from the scene. Nobody was hurt.
