Report: Seattle has 3rd-highest rate of hate crimes against LGBT people in U.S.

SEATTLE -- Seattle is known as a gay friendly city, but crime statistics tell another story.

Seattle has the third-highest crime-rate against members of the gay community when compared to other large cities, according to FBI data obtained by the Seattle Times.

For every 100,000 people in 2011, there were three hate crimes against gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender people.

The Time reports the number jumped to 19 in 2012 and reached 19 again last year.

The only cities with higher rates were Washington, D.C. and Memphis, Tennessee.
