Police: High man falls from building during attempt to be 'closer to God'

SEATTLE -- A 26-year-old Seattle man who allegedly scaled a downtown building while high so he could pray and be "closer to God" is recovering after falling from his perch, Seattle police said.

Around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, police were called to a building near the corner of 5th Avenue and Pike Street with reports of a man laying high on a ledge above a storefront awning calling for help. Firefighters arrived on the scene and the man allegedly said he had fallen about 30-feet to the ledge and was unable to move.

The man allegedly told police he had taken methamphetamine, pain killers and another unidentified drug before climbing the building and attempting to pray. That's when he fell to the ledge, police said.

The man was rescued and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It is unknown if the man will be arrested or charged with a crime.
