Can you recognize flirting? Survey says: probably not

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Can you recognize flirting when you see it? A new study says many people simply can't.

Researchers at the University of Kansas brought together 52 single college students, then had pairs of them sit alone in a room and talk together. Afterwards, the participants were asked specific questions about their exchange.

The researchers found that people do know when a person is not flirting with us. 80% of the participants got this right.

However, the study found that we are not as good identifying when a person is flirting with us. Only 36% of men and 18% of women interpreted this correctly.

The researchers say there is a big reason for this -- flirtatious behavior is hard to identify. It's done in not-so-obvious ways and takes a bit of time to recognize.
