Thieves steal vital belongings from Kent adult day care -- twice

KENT -- An adult day care in Kent is scrambling to pick up the pieces after someone burglarized their facility twice. The things they took made a huge difference in the lives of the people they serve.

As of Thursday, there were no leads and no suspect description. That is why staff members at Full Life Care are hoping someone will come forward.

Inside the nonprofit facility, developmentally disabled adults learn and play.

The staff makes the most of the few resources they have.

But this month, thieves broke into the Kent facility in the 7000 block of South 180th Street not just once, but twice.

Plus, their Columbia City branch was also burglarized.

The crooks roamed the hallways, taking money and medication and also expensive electronics. Even a karaoke machine was stolen.

Those items weren’t just for fun; workers say they were vital for the residents cognitive development.

“We had a lot of heartbroken people yesterday because Wednesday is karaoke day and karaoke did not happen,” case manager Iesha Gizaw said.

The burglars also raided the kitchen, taking food right out of the fridge, taking everything from deli meat, pasta, detergent, sugar and latex gloves.

“It really hurts. These people need help already, and you are taking from needy people,” Gizaw said.

The center ramped up security and it could be months before the stolen items are replaced.

“We would have to wait until the holidays when people donate again,” Gizaw said.

The last time the Kent facility was burglarized was sometime during the Memorial Day weekend. The store next to them was also hit.
