Police: Woman holding infant injured in shooting at local park

crimesceneSEATTLE — A 34-year-old woman visiting an area park with her husband and four children was hit by bullet shrapnel during a gun battle, Seattle police said.

Around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, the victim was visiting Othello Park in the 7300 block of 45th Avenue south with her family when multiple shots rang out, police said. Witnesses heard the shots and spotted two men firing guns at each other.

The victim, who was in the crossfire was hit in the neck, arm and face from apparent shrapnel. She was carrying an infant child at the same time, but luckily the child was not hit.

Seattle police were called to the scene and found an unoccupied vehicle with a blown out rear window. The woman was treated by medical personnel for puncture wounds at the scene.

The first suspect in the shooting is described as a black male wearing a red shirt and black pants. He left the scene in a dark SUV, witnesses told the police. The second is a black male in his late teens wearing dark shorts. He was spotted running from the scene and hiding a gun in a drainage pipe.

Neither suspect was caught by police.
