LOOK: Photos capture rare corona in the sky

MAPLE FALLS, Wash --Suzette Roberts snapped these photos neat Maple Falls Wednesday.
The photos show the bottom half of a corona.
A corona can form all the way around the sun when the sun’s rays are bent by water droplets high in the sky.
This one only shows the bottom half of a full corona – because the requisite water droplets are not present 'above' the sun.
A corona is different from a halo around the sun. Halos are formed with the sun’s ray are bent by ice crystals. You can tell the difference by the colors. Halos have red on the inside; coronas have red on the outside.
