PUYALLUP -- Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who allegedly broke into a glass display case and stole a handgun from a large department store earlier this month.

On Thursday, a white man in his 20s entered the Puyallup Fred Meyer store in the 1100 North Meridian Street, broke into a glass display case and stole a handgun, Puyallup police said. The man left the store and couldn't be located.

The man is described with collar length shaggy brown hair and a beard. He was wearing a gray shirt, black shorts, skater-style tan shoes with white laces and white soles at the time of the theft. He was carrying a red and black backpack with a white logo at the top.

Police said the man arrived and left on a mountain bike.
