Why is this man collecting every copy of ‘Speed’ on VHS?

MOSCOW, Idaho — A man in Eastern Washington is trying to collect every single VHS copy of the movie “Speed” ever made.

According to a recent video, Ryan Beitz has more than 550 copies of the 1994 Keanu Reeves movie so far. It started around Christmas when Beitz bought a copy for each of his family members as a joke. He says he became intrigued by the idea of owning multiple copies of a useless item.

He only buys the VHS if it’s less than $4, but he’s also asking for anyone who owns a VHS copy to donate it to him. His collection has even survived a house fire.

Beitz has also started a Kickstarter campaign to raise money so that he can make his 15-passenger van look like the bus from the movie.

Once it’s tricked out, Beitz plans to take the van and his VHS copies on a cross-country tour.

If you have a VHS copy of Speed you’d like to donate, you can mail it to him:
