Washington one of Top 10 ‘Happiest’ states

depressedNEW YORK – Happiness in our state has taken a big leap, a new poll suggests.

According to a new Gallup survey, Washington ranks ninth in the nation for being happy and healthy. That’s up from 15th place in 2012.

The survey — “State of Global Well-Being” — ranks everything from physical and emotional health to financial security and the environment.

North Dakota topped the list of healthiest states, as determined by a “Well-being index.” It was followed by South Dakota and Nebraska. At the other end of the spectrum, West Virginia was found to be the most miserable state. Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee were also found to be the unhealthiest states in the nation.

“Happiness” was determine by more than 178,000 interviews ranking emotional health, healthy behaviors, work environment, social and community factors, financial security, and access to necessities.
