SEATTLE — Washington lawmakers are moving closer to a solution for the state’s cash-strapped parks system.
According to The Everett Herald, the Senate has approved a bill that would allow commercial advertising in parks. Currently, there is a ban on advertisements in the state’s 117 developed parks.
However, supporters said it would not mean flashy signs on a hiking trail or parks named after corporations. Instead, as the Herald reported, it would allow ad sales on the Washington State Parks website and printed materials. Private partnerships to cover park operating costs could also be developed under the bill.
The bill is expected to go before the House Committee on the Environment on Wednesday.
