SEATTLE– A 36-year-old Seattle man who was shot with a police rifle after officers said he refused to stop waving a handgun around in the Sodo district has died, police said Tuesday.
A Seattle police officer is on administrative leave following a shooting Monday night. It happened in the 2700 block of 1st Avenue South in the Sodo neighborhood.
Witnesses called 911 to report a man waving a gun around a bus stop. Officers arrived and saw a man walking away from the suspect, who continued to brandish the gun in the presence of officers.
Fire department medics were called to the scene to provide treatment. The suspect was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, and he died Tuesday, police said.
No civilians or officers were injured during the incident.
The Homicide/Assault, Force Investigation Team and CSI detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
