Wreckage of missing plane with 5 aboard found in Idaho; no survivors

NAMPA, Idaho (FOX9) -- The wreckage of a small plane missing since Dec. 1 with five people aboard was found near McCall in central Idaho, authorities said Friday night.  There were no survivors.

The Valley County Sheriff's Office confirmed the plane piloted by California software engineer Dale Smith has been found with no survivors.

Others aboard the plane were Dale Smith's son, Daniel; daughter-in-law Sheree Smith; daughter Amber Smith, and her fiance, Jonathan Norton.

They were traveling back from Baker City, Ore., after spending Thanksgiving with family. Amber Smith and Norton were students at BYU-Idaho in Rexburg.

Dale Smith co-founded San Jose, Calif., data storage company Serialtek with partner Rand Kriech, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

The single-engine Beech Bonanza was headed to Butte, Mont., to drop off Daniel and Sheree Smith when Dale Smith reported engine trouble and dropped out of contact.

Officials say recovery efforts may be delayed due to weather conditions and a severe storm heading toward the area.

McCall is about 106 miles north of Boise.
