Summit at Snoqualmie announces limited opening

SEATTLE -- After plenty of delay and bad snow conditions, the Summit at Snoqualmie is ready to open for limited operations Friday.

Summit West will open for limited operations on Friday through the weekend with at least the Pacific Crest and Little Thunder chairlifts spinning each day. The resort hopes to open more lifts and area as soon as snow allows.

"As we continue to get snow, we'll assess each other base area for possible openings and expand operations at West as conditions allow," a release on Summit at Snoqualmie's website said.

A Summit Central opening should not be too far behind, the release said. However, Alpental -- one of the steepest resorts in the region -- still needed "a lot of snow" to open its base terrain.

Cold weather is expected to continue through today, but a Pineapple Express headed to the Pacific Northwest could wreak havoc on the resort's fragile snowpack.
