Edgar Martinez fails to make Hall of Fame

SEATTLE -- Former Mariners star and all-around great hitter Edgar Martinez failed to make the National Baseball Hall of Fame for the fifth time.

Martinez received 25.2 percent of 571 votes cast in the balloting tabulated on Wednesday, the Tacoma News Tribune reported.

The Hall of Fame requires a minimum of 75 percent for entry.

Pitchers Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and first-baseman Frank Thomas were nominated to the hall this year by the Baseball Writer's  Association of America. They will be inducted in July.
