'Hobbit' sequel among new flicks in Seattle

SEATTLE -- The latest J. R. R. Tolkien adaptation hopes to be the one film to rule theaters this weekend.

'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" is the latest entry in the blockbuster fantasy franchise. The sequel follows the continue adventure of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) and Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen) as they help a band of dwarves reclaim their homeland from the powerful dragon Smaug. It is playing in 3D, IMAX 3D and is rated PG-13.

Tyler Perry's iconic elderly woman returns to the big screen in time for the holidays. The pistol-packing grandma returns in "Tyler Perry's A Madea Christmas." This dramatic holiday comedy is rated PG-13.

A toe-tapping, critically-acclaimed "20 Feet from Stardom" returns to Seattle theaters Friday.  The documentary, which looks at the lives of professional backup singers, won the 'Best Documentary Golden Space Needle' audience award at this year's Seattle International Film Festival. It is rated PG-13.
